Trending on the Farm: Colson Montgomery, On

This series will highlight player trends from the top prospects in the White Sox system as well as any other notable performances across all affiliates.

NOTE: This piece will focus on players that are currently in the minor leagues, so Óscar Colás is omitted as he’s with the White Sox.

Colson Montgomery continues to show that the South Atlantic League is no match for him. Montgomery walked six times while striking out just once after playing in five of six games against Jersey Shore. In 12 games with the Dash, the 21 year old shortstop has a .610 OBP and a 1.225 OPS.

20 year old Cristian Mena has now strung together back to back solid starts post all-star break. Over those two starts, Mena has thrown 12.1 innings, allowed 10 hits, four runs (four earned), walked four, and struck out 11.

Bryan Ramos has continued a nice stretch out of the break. The 21 year old is sporting a .919 OPS over the last two weeks and now has an .803 OPS across 38 games for the Barons.

The Carolina Mudcats came out swinging against Noah Schultz, as he finally yielded his first professional run(s) and home run(s). The start turned out to be a clunker after a clean first inning, but the southpaw will look to get back on track this week.

Jonathan Cannon allowed a two run home run in the second inning, and the third inning was more laborious (allowed three hits and three runs). Cannon was more effective over the three other innings however, as he’s still adjusting to Southern League hitters.

José Rodríguez had three extra base hits (two doubles, home run) across five games while being successful on his only stolen base attempt.

After going 0-fer last week, Lenyn Sosa homered but otherwise had a rather pedestrian week (by his standards) against Memphis.

Peyton Pallette ran into some trouble in the second inning, allowing three baserunners (two singles and a walk), but limited the damage to just one run. The third inning saw another run come home on a double steal. The swing-and-miss stuff wasn’t there for Pallette against a hot hitting Mudcats lineup last week.

28 year old Nate Mondou had a nice week against Memphis, batting .421/.476/.632 for a 1.108 OPS with two extra base hits (double, home run) in five games.

26 year old Yolbert Sánchez also swung the bat well against the Redbirds, ending the series with a .996 OPS in four games.

Yoán Moncada is out on a rehab assignment with the Knights. He appeared in five games and swung the bat well, slashing .429/.478/.571 for a 1.049 OPS with three doubles.

Jimmy Lambert pitched well in both of his appearances, throwing three and a third scoreless frames, allowing nothing across the board and struck out three.

Xavier Fernández has been absolutely crushing the ball for the Barons since the break. The 28 year old Fernández appeared in all six games, batting .360/.448/.760 for a 1.208 OPS with four extra base hits (double, three home runs) and nine RBI. Fernández has a 1.430 OPS and four home runs in nine games post all-star break.

24 year old infielder Alsander Womack was an on-base machine for the Barons against the Lookouts. Womack slashed .571/.655/.762 for a 1.417 OPS, doubled, homered, walked six times, and didn’t strike out once in six games.

22 year old righty Matthew Thompson had a strong start for the Barons before running into trouble in the seventh and giving way to the bullpen. Thompson pitched six-plus innings, allowed three hits, three runs (two earned), walked two, and struck out four.

24 year old catcher Michael Turner was quite solid for the Dash last week. Turner batted .313/.400/.688 for a 1.088 OPS, with four extra base hits (three doubles, home run). Turner is sporting an .817 OPS with nearly as many walks (41) as strikeouts (46) for the season with the Dash.

21 year old second baseman Loidel Chapelli saw the ball well against Jersey Shore. Chapelli had a .952 OPS with two extra base hits (double, home run) in five games.

24 year old left hander Jake Palisch stymied Jersey Shore in both of his appearances last week. In two scoreless innings, Palisch allowed just one hit, struck out five, and picked up a save.

23 year old right hander Connor McCullough had the swing-and-miss stuff working against the BlueClaws.

24 year old second baseman Mario Camilletti once again swung a hot bat for the Ballers. Camilletti batted .333/.467/.583 for a 1.050 OPS with four extra base hits (three doubles, home run) and six RBI.

23 year old infielder Bryce Willits had an outstanding week against the Carolina Mudcats. Playing in all six games, Willits batted .391/.500/.826 for a 1.326 OPS with four extra base hits (double, three home runs) and 11 RBI.

25 year old outfielder Chris Lanzilli was another Canon Baller that stood out at the plate. Lanzilli batted .318/.444/.591 for a 1.035 OPS with four extra base hits (three doubles, home run).

22 year old right hander Ethan Hammerberg was one of a handful of Cannon Ballers pitchers that didn’t allow a run to the Mudcats offense. Across two appearances, Hammerberg threw four and a third innings, allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out eight.

18 year old infielder Guillermo Rodriguez led the way for the ACL White Sox last week, slashing .400/.500/.800 for a 1.300 OPS with a double, home run, and 3 RBI across four games.

20 year old outfielder Godwin Bennett appeared in three games last week for the ACL White Sox, smashing a home run, stole a base, and had a 1.122 OPS.

20 year old southpaw Frankeli Arias was fantastic in his start for the ACL White Sox, throwing six scoreless innings allowing just one hit, one walk, and struck out six.

20 year old right hander Ricardo Brizuela made two appearances last week (one start) and was fantastic across both outings. Brizuela threw eight innings, allowing four hits, one run (earned), walked two, struck out nine, while picking up a win and a save to boot.

In three games for the DSL White Sox, 17 year old infielder Javier Mogollon batted .400/.533/.700 with a 1.233 OPS, one home run, four walks (no strikeouts), and went 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

18 year old infielder Ryan Castillo batted .364/.462/.636 for the DSL White Sox with a 1.098 OPS and one home run in three games.

18 year old right hander Marcelo Valladares threw the ball well in his lone start last week for the DSL White Sox. Valladares threw four scoreless innings allowing just three hits, no walks, and struck out six.
